Nicholas D. Kristof, columnist for the New York Times, writes that approximately 20 schools could be built in Afghanistan for the same cost as stationing one soldier there for a year.
If only U.S. schools were that cheap. Roughly 130 schools could be built in Afghanistan for the same cost as building one elementary school in the U.S.
U.S. schools are so expensive because of all the government regulations. Starting with the bidding process, right down to all the regulation on building permits and all the specifications. We need less government, not more, as government is the problem. If you look at anything the government runs it is terrible. You can take a look at public housing the government runs, so much of it is boarded up and abandoned. This country thrives when the private sector has control and not the government.
