Women Dominate Colleges

According to a Pew Research Center report released this week, women constitute 53 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds attending college. In this age group, women have been the majority of college students since 1987.

Among 18- to 24-year-olds, 42.3 percent of women and 37 percent of men are enrolled in college.

Among college students of all ages, the U.S. Census Bureau reports that women comprise 56 percent of undergraduates and 59 percent of graduate students. Women have been the majority of undergraduate students since 1979 and the majority of graduate students since 1990.

This college gender gap does not bode well for the future of the U.S.
